Jet Li Gets Down to Business with 21 APEC Economies in China This Week
International film star, Jet Li will sit among an elite group, including some of the world's most distinguished businesspeople, at the end of this week. The 2nd SME Summit, which draws from the experience of prominent bankers, entrepreneurs and CEOs from across the Asia-Pacific, is part of ABAC's efforts to get SMEs more involved in the APEC process. It also seeks to inform the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) as it prepares to address 21 APEC Leaders in November.
Explains ABAC Chairman, Juan Francisco Raffo: "We keep a very open mind when it comes to ABAC. The idea is that, for Leaders to make informed decisions, they need to see what is really happening on the ground. Before ABAC makes its recommendations, it seeks out the broadest range of ideas, first-hand experience and insight from some of the sharpest minds. The summit is our opportunity to share - informally, honestly and candidly."
The SME Summit will comprise two phases, the first of which will be held in Hangzhou, China on 2-3 August. This will feature presentations from the business community, including co-host Jack Ma, CEO of the Alibaba Group, and will address issues of IT, Training and Financing. It will involve the participation of some 5,000 SMEs from around the region.
Immediately following the SME Summit in Hangzhou, ABAC members will meet (4-6 August) to draft their letter for presentation to the Leaders of the 21 APEC member economies when they meet in Lima, Peru this November.
A press conference will held at the Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency from 1130-1215 on 6 August.
The second phase of the SME summit will take place in Lima, Peru in November.
