APEC to discuss Growth Strategy
Singapore, 3 August 2010 - APEC is holding a Growth Strategy High-Level Policy Roundtable in Beppu, Japan from 7-8 August.
In 2009 APEC Leaders expressed the need to "develop a new growth paradigm" for the Asia-Pacific region, and committed to put in place in 2010 a "comprehensive long-term growth strategy."
The Roundtable is being convened to advance the formulation of the strategy and the discussions will focus on five attributes of growth, namely balanced, inclusive, sustainable, innovative and secure growth.
The meetings will be attended by ministerial-level officials from APEC's member economies, business people, academics and representatives of the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and the International Energy Agency.
The Roundtable will be preceded by a Symposium which is open to the public. During the Symposium presentations will be given by: Dr Peter Drysdale, Professor Emeritus, The Australian National University; Dr Feng Fei, Director General of Industrial Economics Research, Development Research Center of The State Council of China; and Mr Atsutoshi Nishida, Chairman, Toshiba Corporation.
A press conference will be held at the close of the Roundtable at 1300h on Sunday, 8 August 2010.
