APEC photo contest finalists announced, public to pick winner
The APEC Photo Contest 2014 has selected this year’s top ten finalists and invites the public to choose their favorite photo for the Popular Choice Award.
The annual APEC Photo Contest provides an opportunity for the public to capture through photography how APEC’s work affects the daily lives of people in the region. This year’s images interpret APEC’s 2014 priorities to promote trade and regional economic integration; innovative development, economic reform and growth; and connectivity and infrastructure development.
The short-listed finalists can be viewed using an app hosted on APEC’s Facebook and Weibo pages where individuals can select their favorite photo for the APEC Popular Choice Award. The photo that receives the most “likes” by 24 October will win SGD 1,000.
“The photos tell APEC’s story through a medium that connects with a wide audience and highlights the value of APEC’s policies,” said Dr Bollard, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat. “Announcing the winners during APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Beijing enables APEC Senior Officials to understand how the public interprets their work and what priorities resonate.”
“The finalists nominated this year help portray the different dimensions of APEC’s work in a visually unique way,” added Dr Bollard.

“The top ten photos reflect the artistic talent in the Asia-Pacific as well as the impact of trade, economic growth and infrastructure development on the livelihoods of people in the region,” said Eric Baradat, one of the judges and Editor in Chief of Agence-France Presse Photo.
“We will evaluate these finalists based on their interpretation of APEC’s 2014 priorities as well as the photo’s composition and creativity,” explained Huang Wen, also a judge and Director of the New Media Development Division of the News & Information Center at Xinhua News Agency in China.
