Media registration is available for the first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting to be hosted by APEC 2015 Chair the Philippines in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, 100km outside Manila, on 6-7 February.
Background:
The First APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting, also known as SOM1, will be the marquee event opening the Philippines’ year as APEC 2015 Chair—the second time the archipelago will take on this role after a nearly 20-year interval.
Under the theme “Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World” and led by Philippine Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Laura Q. Del Rosario, Chair of the 2015 APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting, Senior Officials from the 21 APEC economies will take actions to drive new growth sources in the Asia-Pacific and deliver the benefits to more of the region’s 3 billion people.
Issues in focus will range from the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), trade facilitation and implementation of the WTO Bali Package, and environmental goods and services liberalization, to boosting anti-corruption, counter-terrorism, disaster preparedness, human capital and SME development, infrastructure and oceans cooperation, among others.
SOM1 will build on a cluster of related technical meetings to take place in Clark and nearby Subic over the preceding 11 days. In total, the meetings will include participation from some 1,700 delegates. Senior Officials will also consider recommendations to come out of the first APEC Business Advisory Council meeting of 2015 in Hong Kong, China on 27-30 January.
