THEME AND PRIORITIES
APEC Economic Leaders’ Week will bring together the leaders, ministers and senior officials of the 21 APEC member economies, which account for half of global trade and 60 percent of world GDP.
Under the theme, “Join, Work, Grow. Together,” the focus will be on concrete measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic through trade outcomes that support the movement of vaccines and related medical supplies, APEC’s long-term work on macroeconomic policy and structural reform as well as efforts to progress work on sustainability, inclusivity and digital connectivity.
ACTIVITIES
APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, 12 November at 23:59 NZDT
Chaired by the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, leaders will build on the significant work undertaken during APEC 2021 to agree on a joint declaration that further delivers on the year’s policy priorities.
Leaders are also expected to endorse an implementation plan for the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, which will guide the forum’s work for the next 20 years. The plan is APEC’s most important deliverable for the year, and a core focus for New Zealand as host.
ABAC/Leaders Dialogue, 12 November at 01:00 NZDT
This will be an opportunity for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) to discuss priority issues for business with the region’s leaders. This connection with business across the Asia-Pacific has been a major strength of APEC’s work this year.
APEC CEO Summit, 11–12 November at 08:00–18:45 NZDT
The CEO Summit is the Asia-Pacific’s premier dialogue for business and government leaders to discuss the biggest challenges and opportunities of our time. Voices of the Future, 9–10 November at 15:00 NZDT
Young people from around the APEC region will join together to craft a declaration for APEC leaders that lays out their vision for the future. Cross-border travel will also be on the agenda.
Concluding Senior Officials’ Meeting, 5 November at 23:59 NZDT
APEC senior officials will meet for the fourth and final time this year to progress policy discussions and lay the groundwork for the APEC Ministers’ and Leaders’ meetings.
