Description
Marine debris is a global problem that has threatened the environment and food security. One of the most significant enablers in managing marine debris is intervention by the government. Hence, capacity building among government officials from APEC economies is essential, and it and it may lead to the development of specific programs or policies aimed at managing land and sea-based waste and mitigating the effects of marine debris. This project focuses on developing capacity building on marine debris management and monitoring from source through a 4-days hybrid webinar and focus group discussions, where knowledge transfer and assessment of current challenges and initiatives related to marine debris was conducted for all attending economies. The trends for policies, technologies and cooperation opportunities were identified based on presentations by experts and feedbacks received from participants, enabling recommendations to be made for mutual benefit of the region.
