The APEC workshop on “Promoting Small Farmers’ Integration into Global Value Chains (GVCs)” was held in June 2023 to identify opportunities and overcome challenges that impede small-scale agricultural producers from integrating into GVCs.
Given the importance of small farmers to food security, social-economic growth and development, sustainability and inclusion, the workshop focused on sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices among representatives from APEC member economies, including governments, associations and civil society, institutions, private sectors, etc. Participants from the workshop came up with a number of recommendations, including more concrete efforts and support to clusters, cooperatives, cooperative alliance, implementation of international standards, trade promotion, FTAs, collaboration among various stakeholders, youth participation.
