Remote area development, the subject of this study, is economic development in the long run. The report first discusses what defines remoteness before delving into the challenges faced by remote areas and uncovering cases where remote areas have thrived in spite of those challenges. It then discusses what economies can do to develop and integrate remote areas into the wider economy and how APEC can contribute in this endeavor.
