The APEC Chemical Dialogue (CD) initiated a project in 2023 focusing on enhancing understanding implementation challenges of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) and promote convergence across member economies. Through webinars, key insights revealed challenges in harmonizing GHS implementation, emphasizing the need for international cooperation. Recommendations include enhanced collaboration, development and revision of resources, and engagement with international bodies like the UNSCEGHS. The project achieved its objectives by deepening understanding of GHS, identifying challenges, and proposing a roadmap for convergence to facilitate trade. Ongoing dialogue and collaboration will be crucial for more consistent GHS implementation across the region, ensuring chemical safety and trade facilitation.
