Green chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of toxic substances. Green chemistry applies across the life cycle of a chemical product, including its design, manufacture, use, and ultimate disposal. By minimizing or eliminating the use of toxic chemical feedstocks, it reduces pollution at its source and optimizes the efficiencies of manufacturing processes. This publication provides insight from regulatory and industry experts and identifies green chemistry tools, case studies, and literature. This publication was derived from the APEC Chemical Dialogue’s Green Chemistry Workshop held in Palm Springs, California in February 2023. This publication is intended to encourage APEC members to adopt or advance their understanding and/or implementation of green chemistry.
